Garden walls & hard landscaping
I decided to make a speciality of garden walling and hard landscaping because I enjoy the outdoors - except when it's raining, that is, and you can't lay bricks in the rain anyway (the mortar gets washed out). And a garden makes such a lovely work environment.
It is also very satisfying to see a garden transformed by the addition of walls, terraces, planters, steps, balustrades and other masonry features, adding form and structure and making use of the much-neglected vertical dimension!
I have seen all too often the kind of mess that builders can make in gardens - often "wanton destruction" is the phrase that comes to mind. Well, that's what I pride myself on avoiding. I always try to keep my "footprint" on a garden to a minimum and to respect the flowers and other plants growing there, and of course the lawn. For more on this, see what I don't do
The feature picture on this page is actually a case in point. Our client had a truly dreadful experience with a builder / handyman who managed to cover half her garden in Osney Island, Oxford, in earth spoil from massive excavations. I am happy to say that we managed to get the mess sorted out, build the planters and pathways, and restore our client's mental equilibrium!
